Jury Hears 911 Name in Fahim Saleh Homicide-Dismemberment Trial in NYC

A Manhattan jury on Friday heard the harrowing 911 name of a lady who found the dismembered physique of her cousin, Gokada ride-share CEO Fahim Saleh.

“Oh my God. Oh my God,” the lady cries within the 911 name, after discovering Saleh’s torso dealing with up in a pool of blood on his lounge ground.

“Is he respiration?” the operator asks, to which the lady sobs, “No! His head is lacking, his arms are lacking, and his legs are lacking!”

Saleh, a Bangladeshi-American, was an admired worldwide entrepreneur who had made hundreds of thousands via Gokada, his Nigeria-based bike ride-share and supply service.

Manhattan prosecutors say the tech entrepreneur was murdered and sawed into items in July, 2020 by Tyrese Haspil, his embezzling former private assistant, who acted after weeks of planning.

Safety footage — undisputed by the protection — exhibits Haspil surprising his sufferer from behind with a Taser because the elevator doorways open into Saleh’s seventh-floor condominium.

The protection concedes that Haspil, 25, stole from after which killed and dismembered his ex-boss.

However Haspil suffered an excessive emotional disturbance throughout the weeks it took to plan, execute, and attempt to cowl up the killing, protection lawyer Sam Roberts informed jurors in opening statements Friday.

That “disturbance” lay latent after Haspil’s traumatic childhood — and was then triggered by the considered dropping his girlfriend, Marine Chavaux, who was quickly to return to her native France, Roberts stated.

Realizing that his $400,000 embezzlement had been found, however determined to lavish extra items on Chavaux in time for her twenty second birthday, a “disturbed” Haspil believed his solely choices have been “suicide or murder,” Roberts informed jurors.

Promoting this protection could show a tall order. Prosecutors say Haspil had bought his Taser a full month earlier than the homicide and spent the three days after the homicide methodically dismembering his sufferer and purchasing along with his sufferer’s bank card at luxurious retail shops.

Additionally on Friday, jurors noticed images of a purchasing bag from Christian Louboutin that police recovered from the $18,000-a-month Airbnb the place Haspil was arrested.

If the jury believes Haspil’s protection, he’d be responsible of manslaughter as a substitute of homicide, and would face as little as 5 years in jail.

The 911 tape

“Miss? Miss? Who’s the ambulance for?” the 911 operator asks Saleh’s cousin within the recording performed Friday.

Prosecutors have referred to the cousin solely as “Individual 1” in courtroom papers. Enterprise Insider is withholding her title for privateness.

“Who lower it off?” requested the operator, who has in the meantime dispatched first responders to the scene.

“I do not know!” the cousin gasps. “I simply got here to test in on him.”

“It is simply you there, proper?” the operator asks.

Excessive-emotional-disturbance defenses are normally reserved for sudden acts of violence, although there are exceptions.

In 2014, rich Manhattan socialite Gigi Jordan was discovered responsible of first-degree manslaughter, not homicide, after poisoning her eight-year-old autistic son. Her attorneys argued she acted beneath excessive emotional misery as she deliberate and executed the boy’s demise.
